MBH Family Law Welcomes Distinguished Mediator and Family Law Expert Matt Riek
MBH Family Law is proud to announce that Matt Riek, a former Associate Judge of the 360th District Court in Fort Worth and a widely respected figure in family law, has joined our firm. With over 25 years of experience, Matt brings a rare blend of expertise, judicial insight, and a passion for helping families navigate their most challenging times.
Kelly Hollingsworth, one of the Founding Partners of MBH Family Law, shared his enthusiasm for Matt joining the firm: “Adding Matt as the first new partner in our firm was the easiest major decision the five founding partners have ever made regarding MBH. He is the only person we have ever considered adding as a partner. Matt’s ethical compass and sterling reputation in the Tarrant County legal community are unmatched. The culture of our firm is built on decency, competence, and truly equal partnership. We know that from the day Matt joins us, he will reflect those values effortlessly and be a great partner. With Matt’s leadership in starting up our new mediation section, we believe we cannot help but succeed. With Matt on board, the future of MBH Family Law is brighter than ever.”
Matt’s journey to MBH reflects his deep commitment to the practice of family law. Board Certified in Family Law since 2004, he has been a steadfast advocate for his clients, a leader in the legal community, and a dedicated mediator. Before joining MBH, Matt served as Associate Judge, where he presided over complex family law cases and also led the Tarrant County Family Recovery Court, a role that allowed him to make a profound impact on families striving to recover from addiction and to be reunited with their children. He found this work to be “incredibly meaningful” and even took his advocacy to Washington, D.C., to secure funding for specialty courts nationwide.
Matt’s decision to join MBH was inspired by his admiration for the firm’s dedication to excellence and innovative approaches to family law. “I’ve seen the MBH team in action in my courtroom. Their commitment to their clients and their creative problem-solving stood out to me,” Matt shares. At MBH, he will lead the firm’s mediation practice, a role perfectly suited to his belief in resolution-focused advocacy. “Families benefit from finding innovative solutions outside the courtroom,” he explains. “I’m excited to help our clients resolve conflicts efficiently and with dignity.”
Beyond his professional accolades—including recognition as a Texas Super Lawyer and frequent speaker at legal seminars—Matt is also an educator and mentor. He looks forward to guiding MBH’s talented attorneys and encouraging them to engage with local legal and community organizations.
Outside the office, Matt enjoys spending time with his family, traveling, and cheering on his two daughters, one pursuing a career in music and opera at Texas Christian University and the other studying biology at the University of Texas – all while keeping his allegiance intact to his Baylor Bears! He describes himself as “thoughtful, insightful, and compassionate,” qualities that undoubtedly enrich his approach to law and life.
Matt’s arrival at MBH marks an exciting chapter for the firm as we continue to provide unparalleled legal services to families in Tarrant County and beyond. We are thrilled to welcome Matt and look forward to the expertise and compassion he brings to our team.
